Good evening everyone.  I hope you are having a good weekend!  I stumbled across an add for cheap books about Autism while on Facebook, so I decided to check it out.  The website is Future Horizons Inc.  The page advertised was Autism Books for Less!  Evidently you get 20% off when you use the coupon code "Less" at check out.

The Future Horizons Inc. website also had information on conferences, sensory resources, and newsletters.  They also have an ebooks  for purchase.  Dr. Temple Grandin is one of the features speakers at the conferences.  For more information, click on the links.  I hope you all have a wonderful week!!!

I found a great website that has a lot of adaptive equipment.  Car seats, harnesses for the car, seatbelt buckle guards-all of this can be found at this site.

When Nothing Works

  • Have you ever had one of those days, or weeks, where your little one if off and nothing-I mean nothing-helps him/her?  I've tried all of the usual sensory stuff-deep pressure, brushing, spinning-and nothing seems to help him.  He is very sensitive right now to just about everything.  He gagged when I gave him M& Ms the other day.  He's never done that before.  His behavior has also been erratic and extremely unpredictable.  I love my little guy dearly and I just want to give him what he needs so he can be peaceful again.  He is so agitated and his little body seems like it just can't settle down.  We see our OT in two days, thankfully.  I will be checking with her to see if there is anything else we can do to help.  In the mean time, I will keep trying what I know to do.

Ya'll have been reading my blog long enough to know that, what I don't know something, I research it.  Here are some links with ideas for calming our special kiddos.

    Summer Activities

I am seeing that it is taking our son a while to adjust to being out of school.  He was only in Pre-K for three hours a day but it made a big impact on him and he is missing it.  I am trying to provide activities at home to keep him busy and engaged.  We painted piggy-banks and he really liked that. We also played balloon ping pong using paddles made out of paper plates and craft sticks. I am always on the look-out for more ideas and I wanted to pass on what I found.  I found some great ideas on Facebook.  Below are some websites I found with different ideas.

We have been dealing with some negative behaviors with our youngest son for about six weeks now.  His sensory diet, brushing, and re-directing have not been helping.  We are planning to try ABA therapy soon.  Hopefully we can get some strategies to help.  If you need more information and strategies, as we do here are some websites I found with some useful information.

I am a mom to three special-needs kids.  Writing about my experiences is something new I'm embarking on.  I hope my musings help, not only me, but someone else out there who walks in shoes similar to my own.
